The World Halal Council renewed the certificate of the only Russian representative – Halal Standard Committee

7 November 2018

The 16th General Assembly of the World Halal Council was held on October 28-30, 2018 in Istanbul (Turkey), and the Halal Standard Committee took part there. During the meeting of the international organization the WHC certificate for the Halal Standard Committee of the Muslim Spiritual Authority of the Republic of Tatarstan was extended. The document gives the right to vote at meetings of the Assembly and participate in its activities. Thus, the certificate of this authoritative organization is an evidence of international recognition of our Committee’s activities and opens up new opportunities and markets for Russian enterprises producing products under the Halal brand – the markets of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and other countries. For the first time the Committee became a member of WHC in 2014.

The Halal Standard Committee of the Muslim Spiritual Authority of the Republic of Tatarstan turned out to be the only representative of Russia who received the certificate of the World Halal Council.

The World Halal Council was established in Indonesia in 1999 with the aim of strengthening fraternity and cooperation among Halal certification centers around the world. Now the Council unites more than 25 countries of the world and it is an international coordinating center in the field of Halal industry.

Tatarstan is the first region in Russia, that in 2009 registered in ROSSTANDART the System of voluntary certification of products and services for compliance with the canons of Islamic Halal System. The Halal Standard Committee of the Muslim Spiritual Authority of the Republic of Tatarstan in collaboration with the “Test-Tatarstan” developed this standard. Today 118 enterprises and entrepreneurs are registered in the register of the Committee, 72 of them are from Tatarstan, 46 are from other regions of Russia. Since the foundation more than 1,500 enterprises have been certified. As of 2017, 141 applications for certification were accepted, of which 114 certificates were issued to manufacturers.

On October 6, 2017 in ROSSTANDART, on the basis of the Russian Islamic Institute, Technical Committee No. 704 “Production of goods and the provision of Halal services” was established. Its task is to develop the unified Russian Halal standards for food products, non-food products and services. The Chairman of the TC is the Principal of the Bolgar Islamic Academy and the Russian Islamic Institute Rafik Muhametshin.
